Excellent service, receptionist so helpful kind and understanding, doctor called me back at expected time and script sent to my designated pharmacy immediately. At this stage when doctor surgeries are telling us we have to wait days for an appointment when seriously sick but not an emergency to go to A&E this service is an absolute lifesaver. Highly recommend for service , compassion and professionalism. Thankyou again

Please read the FAQs carefully to ensure this service is suitable for you. They contain important information about eligibility, treatment options, and when to seek alternative care.

  • Our prescription service costs €25

  • This service is available to patients anywhere in Republic of Ireland.

  • Yes - this service is based on the same patient-doctor confidentiality that you would expect in a face-to-face consultation.

  • Anaphylaxis is a serious and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that requires immediate medical attention. It occurs when the body’s immune system overreacts to a normally harmless substance—known as an allergen—such as certain foods, insect stings, medications, or latex.

This rapid and severe allergic response can develop within seconds or minutes of exposure, and symptoms may escalate quickly, potentially leading to difficulty breathing, a sudden drop in blood pressure, swelling of the throat, or even loss of consciousness.

Because anaphylaxis is a medical emergency, having quick access to a prescribed adrenaline pen (such as an EpiPen®) is essential for individuals at risk

  • Anaphylaxis occurs when the body’s immune system mistakenly identifies a typically harmless substance—called an allergen—as a threat. This triggers an extreme immune response that can lead to life-threatening symptoms.

While anaphylaxis often happens in response to a known allergy, it can also occur unexpectedly, even without a prior history of allergic reactions. Identifying your personal triggers is crucial for managing your risk and being prepared.

    Common causes of anaphylaxis include:

    • Foods – such as peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, fish, milk, eggs, and soy

    • Medications – especially antibiotics like penicillin and pain relievers such as aspirin or NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)

    • Insect stings or bites – from bees, wasps, hornets, or fire ants

    • Latex – commonly found in gloves, balloons, and some medical equipment

    • General anaesthetic drugs – used during surgeries

    • Contrast agents – dyes used in medical imaging tests like CT scans or MRIs

In some cases—up to 25%—no clear allergen can be identified, even after thorough evaluation. This is referred to as Idiopathic Anaphylaxis.

  • Anaphylaxis symptoms can appear suddenly and escalate rapidly, often within minutes of exposure to an allergen. This severe allergic reaction causes the immune system to release a surge of chemicals that can lead to anaphylactic shock—a condition where blood pressure drops dangerously low and airways become severely narrowed, making breathing difficult.

Recognizing the early signs of anaphylaxis is critical to acting quickly and administering emergency treatment. Common symptoms of anaphylaxis include:

    • Swelling of the lips, tongue, throat, or face

    • Widespread skin rash (often raised, red, and itchy—similar to hives)

    • Wheezing or shortness of breath

    • Tightness in the chest or throat

    • Dizziness, fainting, or collapse due to a sudden drop in blood pressure

    • Rapid or irregular heartbeat

Because anaphylaxis can be life-threatening, anyone experiencing these symptoms should use an adrenaline pen immediately and seek emergency medical help.

  • The first and most important treatment for anaphylaxis is the immediate use of adrenaline (epinephrine), which helps reverse the life-threatening symptoms by relaxing the airways, improving breathing, and stabilizing blood pressure.

Adrenaline should be administered as soon as symptoms begin, even if you're unsure whether the reaction is definitely anaphylaxis. Delaying treatment can increase the risk of complications. This life-saving medication is delivered using a pre-filled adrenaline pen, such as an EpiPen®, Jext®, or Emerade®.

After using an adrenaline pen, it is critical to call emergency services immediately. Emergency medical professionals need to assess your condition, provide follow-up care, and monitor for a second reaction, which can sometimes occur hours later.

For this reason, it is strongly recommended that individuals at risk of anaphylaxis always carry two adrenaline pens at all times.

Our online prescription service helps you stay protected by making it simple and convenient to order and renew your adrenaline auto-injectors—ensuring you're always prepared when every second counts.

  • We offer access to prescriptions for adrenaline auto-injectors, the essential emergency treatment for anaphylaxis. There are currently three main brands of adrenaline pens available in Ireland:

    • EpiPen®

    • Jext®

    • Emerade®

Important: Each brand of adrenaline pen has a slightly different design and method of use, so it’s vital that you request the device you’re already trained to use. Switching between brands without retraining can lead to delays or misuse during an emergency.

  • While anaphylaxis can't always be fully prevented, you can significantly reduce your risk by understanding your allergies, avoiding triggers, and being prepared with the right treatment. Here’s how:

    Know Your Allergy Triggers

    • Have a consultation with an allergist or immunologist if you've ever had an anaphylactic reaction.

    • Identifying your specific allergens is key to managing your risk.

    Avoid Allergen Exposure

    • Read food labels carefully every time.

    • When dining out, ask about ingredients and food preparation methods.

    • Avoid cross-contamination where possible.

    Always Be Prepared

    • Carry two in-date adrenaline auto-injectors at all times.

    • Ensure you're confident using your specific device (EpiPen®, Jext®, or Emerade®).

    • Keep your devices stored properly and check expiry dates regularly.

    Educate Others Around You

    • Let family, friends, and colleagues know about your allergy.

    • Show them how to use your adrenaline pen in case of an emergency.

    • Wear a medical alert bracelet or carry an allergy ID card.

    Recognise the Early Signs

    • Be aware of common symptoms like swelling, rash, breathing difficulties, or dizziness.

    • Act quickly if symptoms appear—use your adrenaline pen immediately and call emergency services.

  • You may be eligible to request anaphylaxis treatment through GP24.ie if you:

    • Are over 17 years of age

    • Have been previously diagnosed with anaphylaxis by a healthcare professional

    • Need a repeat prescription for commonly prescribed anaphylaxis medication

    • Are not currently experiencing a severe flare-up or medical emergency

Please note: This service is not suitable for initial diagnosis of anaphylaxis or for managing uncontrolled symptoms.

  • Stop taking the medication and seek medical advice immediately. You can also contact us for follow-up support or guidance from one of our GPs.

Medical Review: An Irish-registered doctor will review your information to determine if treatment is appropriate for you

Prescription Issuance: If suitable, a prescription will be sent directly to your chosen Irish pharmacy via secure Healthmail

  • Yes. To ensure your safety, you’ll need to complete a confidential health questionnaire, which will be reviewed by a Doctor before any prescription is issued.
