Excellent service, receptionist so helpful kind and understanding, doctor called me back at expected time and script sent to my designated pharmacy immediately. At this stage when doctor surgeries are telling us we have to wait days for an appointment when seriously sick but not an emergency to go to A&E this service is an absolute lifesaver. Highly recommend for service , compassion and professionalism. Thankyou again

Frequently Asked Questions

Please read the FAQs carefully to ensure this service is suitable for you. They contain important information about eligibility, treatment options, and when to seek alternative care.

  • Our prescription service costs €25

  • This service is available to patients anywhere in Republic of Ireland.

  • Yes - this service is based on the same patient-doctor confidentiality that you would expect in a face-to-face consultation.

  • If you’re not entirely sure about your condition and have not had a previous prescription, it is recommended that you first chat with our doctor using either our Video Consultation or Phone consultation services first.

  • Jet lag is a temporary sleep disorder that occurs when your body’s internal clock is out of sync with the local time at your travel destination.

This happens when you rapidly cross multiple time zones, causing your body to struggle to adjust to the new day-night schedule.

Common symptoms include difficulty falling asleep, daytime fatigue, trouble concentrating, irritability, digestive issues, and a general feeling of being unwell.

  • You may be eligible to request jet lag treatment through GP24.ie if you:

    • Are over 18 years old

    • Require a repeat prescription for a commonly prescribed jet lag medication

    • Are not experiencing a medical emergency or severe symptoms requiring urgent care

It is not suitable for individuals who are:

    • Under 18 years old

    • Pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding

    • Seeking treatment for chronic insomnia, long-term sleep issues, or shift work-related sleep problems

  • We can prescribe melatonin tablets to help manage jet lag, provided they are clinically suitable for you.

Melatonin is a natural hormone produced by the brain that plays a key role in regulating your sleep-wake cycle.

When traveling across time zones disrupts this cycle, taking melatonin for a few days after you arrive at your destination can help your body adjust more quickly and reduce common jet lag symptoms such as insomnia, tiredness, and difficulty concentrating.

  • To help manage jet lag, take your melatonin tablet 30 to 60 minutes before your planned bedtime at your destination. Ideally, this should be between 8pm and 4am local time.

Begin taking melatonin on the night you arrive and continue each night for up to three days.

For best results, avoid eating for at least two hours before and after taking your melatonin tablet, and do not consume alcohol during this period.

Melatonin works best when used alongside other non-medical strategies—such as getting sunlight during the day and adjusting your sleep schedule—to further reduce jet lag symptoms.

  • Melatonin, commonly used to treat jet lag, is generally safe for short-term use, but some people may experience side effects. These can include:

    • Daytime drowsiness or grogginess: You might feel sleepy or less alert the next day, which can affect your ability to drive or operate machinery safely.

    • Headaches: Mild headaches are possible, especially with higher doses, so it’s important to follow your prescribed amount.

    • Dizziness: Some people may feel lightheaded or unsteady after taking melatonin.

    • Nausea or digestive discomfort: Stomach upset or nausea can occur in certain individuals.

    • Disrupted sleep patterns: If melatonin is taken at the wrong time or used for too long, it can actually make sleep issues worse.

    • Other possible effects: Less commonly, people may experience vivid dreams, mood changes, or a runny nose and sore throat.

  • Stop taking the medication and seek medical advice immediately. You can also contact us for follow-up support or guidance from one of our GPs.

  • Complete an Online Questionnaire: Fill out a secure, confidential medical assessment form detailing your symptoms and health history

Medical Review: An Irish-registered doctor will review your information to determine if treatment is appropriate for you

Prescription Issuance: If suitable, a prescription will be sent directly to your chosen Irish pharmacy via secure Healthmail

  • Your prescription will be sent electronically via the Healthmail system to the Irish pharmacy of your choice - you can nominate any pharmacy in Ireland to receive your prescription

  • Once your medical questionnaire is submitted, prescriptions are typically issued within 24 hours.

(Please note this may vary on weekends)

  • Yes. To ensure your safety, you’ll need to complete a confidential health questionnaire, which will be reviewed by a Doctor before any prescription is issued.

Your medical information is reviewed only by Irish Medical Council Registered Doctors and is handled in line with GDPR and Irish data protection laws.
